Peacock Feathers have been cheekily placed over bust and crotch area in typical provocative 1970s manner.
In 1960 Daniel Tribouillard launched an innovative new process for printing English weaves which were very fashionable at the time but thought to be unprintable. In 1968 he then presented his first collection of printed silk jersey dresses with emphasis to the lightness of the fabric: “The Leonard Dress: 150g of happiness”. Leonard dresses are recognisable to date for the style of the design and the fabric used.
There is an intriguing possibility that this dress dates from 1975 when a new set of Hera colour ways were produced to coincide with Liberty’s Centenary celebrations. Hera or Peacock Feather design is usually attributed to Arthur Silver of the Silver Studios (1895), but also to Arthur’s son Rex Silver (1900) or even Christopher Dresser in 1876 for the original patent on a peacock feather design.
